The “Season of Giving” is the perfect time and perfect opportunity to share life and hope with others by giving blood or registering to become a tissue donor.  Community Blood Center (CBC) and Community Tissue Services (CTS) welcome your gift year round, but especially at holiday time.

CBC is grateful to donors who take the time to give blood during the busy holiday period, and honors donors for their commitment during January National Volunteer Blood Donor Month.  It’s a time of disrupted schedules due to holiday vacations from work and school, winter weather and increased cases of cold and flu.

CTS looks forward to the opportunity on New Year’s Day to draw national attention to the need for tissue donors. CTS will join the national campaign honoring the lifesaving gifts of organ, eye and tissue donation in the Tournament of Roses Parade Tuesday, Jan. 1 in Pasadena, CA.

The 2013 Donate Life Rose Parade Float “Journeys of the Heart” will feature 72 memorial “floragraph” portraits of organ, eye and tissue donors, including Quinn Vittorio Wilde of Bryan, OH.  Quinn was nine weeks old when he died. His donated heart valves helped save the lives of two infant girls.

“He accomplished so much in the nine weeks he was on this earth,” said Quinn’s mother Denien Vittorio Wilde, who will ride on the Donate Life float in Quinn’s honor. “He touched many, many lives and became a hero to two infants and their families. Quinn gave those families and perhaps all of us the gift of hope.”
